  • As part of the Sawai Madhopur Gaming Sanctuary, the reserve was established by the Government of India in 1955.
  • It was later declared one of India’s Project Tiger Reserves in 1973.
  • National park status was granted to Ranthambhore in 1980.
  • In 1984, Sawai Mansingh Sanctuary and Keladevi Sanctuary were established in the adjacent forests.
  • Sawai Mansingh and Kaladevi Sanctuaries were added to the tiger reserve in 1991.
